Call it old fashion, but for the longest time, bunot (plucking) is the way to go for me in terms of removing hair on my armpits.
For a very few special occasions in the past though, I have had my armpit hair removed via threading or waxing.
But, recently, I realized that I have to find a faster way of removing hair on my armpits especially now that I have two babies (my husband and my one-year old son) to attend to and spending time making bunot the hair on my armpits is taking 30 minutes (sometimes more) of my time away from them. (I am not exaggerating but 30 minutes is a lot of time for wife-y and mommy chores.) The same goes with a session of threading or waxing in a salon which takes about an hour or more.
I remembered that I have a tube of Veet Hair Removal Cream which was given away in an event I attended many months ago which I purposely didnt use that time because I was still breastfeeding (they say you should not just apply any chemical on your skin when breastfeeding as it may have an adverse effect on your milk supply). I looked for the tube, found it, and decided to try it.
Its label reads 3-Minute Hair Removal. From 30 minutes to just three minutes? Is this for real? Wow! I should really try this one.
At first, I was hesitant to try it, so before using it, I applied the cream to a small area on my armpit just so to test if my skin is hiyang to it. I just dont want to blame myself later on for not testing it first, and just find myself scratching my armpits because of itchiness and irritation.
(Warnings: Do not use on skin which has been shaved in the last 72 hours or on skin which has suffered an adverse reaction to hair removal creams in the past. Also, do not use immediately after hot bath or shower.)
Since the cream seemed hiyang on my skin, I applied the cream directly on my left and right armpits with the spatula that came with it and spread the cream evenly to cover hair on my armpits. I left the cream for three minutes. After three minutes, I used the head of the spatula to test a small area, and hair came away easily. Since it appeared to be working, I removed/scraped the rest of the cream with the spatula. (If your hair doesnt come away when you test small area, leave the cream on for a bit longer without exceeding six minutes in total. The time the cream takes to work depends on the thickness of your hair.) I rinsed my armpits with water and dried them with a towel afterwards, and, voila, no more armpit hair for me. (Note: Wait 24 hours before applying an anti-perspirant, a perfumed product, swimming or sunbathing.)
I have to admit that I was very happy and impressed with its results. The hair removal process was easier and faster compared to bunot (though I missed the sarap of bunot). I was amazed by how the cream easily removed hair on my armpits and, at the same time, left my skin smooth and moisturised. I am so convinced with this product, until...
The next day came, and, guess what, I saw little hair growing on my armpits. Yes, they grew that fast. I read the label again to see if I can apply the cream again to remove the little hair growing, but the label says to wait 72 hours (three days) between applications. Within the next three days, my hair grew, and grew, and grew.
Honestly, I didnt really feel that bad with what happened because, after all, it, indeed, removed hair on my armpits in three minutes the day before and, I swear, my armpits appeared really presentable after its use. I assumed that the cream just dissolved the hair above my (armpit) skin and did nothing to my (armpit) hair roots. So, I perfectly understood.
In spite of what happened, I think Veet Hair Removal Cream is a promising product and will serve me in many (emergency) situations like if Im hairy and I need to wear my formal (sleeveless) dress for a very special occasion and I dont have time to make bunot or to attend to a thread or wax session due to my very toxic schedule, or if I have nothing to wear in my closet but a sleeveless blouse and I have to have hair-free armpits (believe me, these two situations happen).
By the way, Veet Hair Removal Cream is also designed for legs and bikini line use but I have not tried the product on these parts yet. (Maybe soon.) It also comes in two variants: for normal and for dry skin (I used this).
If time permits, I will still go for bunot, but if budget permits, I will go for laser? Hehe.
